WEIGHTS AND MEASURES AGENCY RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT SAMIA’S CALL FOR TREE PLANTING
By WMA – Dodoma
Staff of the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) have responded to the call made by Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, urging citizens through various groups to plant trees in their areas as part of environmental conservation efforts.
While leading a tree planting exercise at the WMA Headquarters in Medeli, Dodoma, earlier today, March 20, 2026, the Manager of Administration and Human Resources, Charles Mavunde, emphasized the importance for WMA staff across the country to adhere to government directives by planting and nurturing trees to protect the environment.
He noted that President Samia has consistently emphasized tree planting in various forums and has personally led by example as a champion of the initiative. As a result, WMA found it appropriate to respond positively to her call.
“Mtakumbuka kwamba, even Emmanuel Nchimbi, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, while representing the President during the World Tree Planting Day and National Tree Planting commemorations held yesterday, March 19, 2026, in Lindi, directed various groups of Tanzanians to continue embracing the culture of planting trees,” Mavunde explained. He concluded by affirming that WMA has taken the directives from national leaders seriously and is committed to fully implementing them.
Various leaders and staff from WMA Headquarters participated in the exercise, including the Director of Business Services, Phanuel Mtuki; Finance Manager, CPA Ibrahim Mbinga; Dodoma Regional Manager, Said Ibrahim; Communications Manager, Veronica Simba; and Head of Planning Unit, Nelson Ruturagara.
Other participants included staff from different departments such as officers, transport officers, and office assistants.
WMA is a government agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the primary responsibility of protecting consumers by ensuring the proper use of measurements across various sectors.
