TANZANIA AND UGANDA STRENGTHEN DIPLOMATIC AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Government of the Republic of Uganda have continued to strengthen their diplomatic, economic, and social relations through the Fifth Session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) held in Dar es Salaam from March 11 to 13, 2026.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs), John Mulimba.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the implementation of decisions reached during the previous JPC session and discussed new areas of cooperation aimed at further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Key areas discussed included diplomatic and political consultations, defense and security matters, as well as immigration issues. The leaders also deliberated on infrastructure development, including sectors such as construction, transport, and energy, which are essential for economic growth and facilitating trade between Tanzania and Uganda.

In addition, the meeting addressed matters related to economic cooperation and trade, industry, livestock, fisheries, agriculture, water, environment, and tourism. Social and legal issues were also discussed with the aim of improving the welfare of citizens in both countries.

Through the meeting, Tanzania and Uganda reaffirmed their strong commitment to working closely together in implementing joint projects and initiatives that will stimulate economic and social development while strengthening the longstanding historical ties between the two nations.

The meeting has been described as an important step in advancing strategic cooperation and reinforcing friendly relations between Tanzania and Uganda for the benefit of citizens of both countries.
