PRESIDENT SAMIA TO LAY FOUNDATION STONE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 15 OIL STORAGE TANKS AT DAR ES SALAAM PORT

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of 15 oil storage tanks at the Port of Dar es Salaam is scheduled to take place on March 3, 2026, with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, expected to officiate as the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on March 2, 2026, the Minister for Transport, Makame Mnyaa Mbarawa, said the event forms part of the Government’s broader plan to expand and modernize the port as the country’s main trade gateway.

Prof. Mbarawa explained that the construction of the tanks will increase the nation’s fuel storage capacity and improve the energy supply chain, a move expected to boost both domestic and international trade through the port.

“This project demonstrates the strong commitment of the Sixth Phase Government to strengthening strategic infrastructure projects that drive national development,” he said.

The project is part of the ongoing improvements at the Port of Dar es Salaam aimed at enhancing service efficiency, attracting investment, and positioning Tanzania as a key trade hub in the East African region.
