PERMANENT SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE PRAISES TRA WOMEN FOR ACHIEVING REVENUE COLLECTION TARGETS

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, has commended women working at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for their significant contribution to government revenue collection.

Speaking during the International Women’s Day celebrations at Mlimani City, the Permanent Secretary said women have strong potential to participate in leadership and contribute to national development.

“I would like to congratulate all women at TRA for your dedication in ensuring government revenues are collected efficiently. Equality and fairness for women and girls are key pillars in achieving the Vision 2050 agenda,” she said.

She also commended women entrepreneurs who voluntarily pay taxes, noting their important role in strengthening the country’s economy.

“Women entrepreneurs are an important pillar in increasing tax revenues and strengthening an inclusive economy,” she added.

Dr. Mwamba further urged women to continue demonstrating courage, innovation, and unity in public service and nation-building.

“The Ministry of Finance will continue ensuring that TRA provides a safe and supportive working environment that enables women to achieve their goals. May God bless you all,” she concluded.

On his part, the Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Mwenda, said the institution continues to strengthen ethical systems among its employees, noting that the number of staff found committing misconduct and facing disciplinary action remains low.

Mwenda explained that TRA has a special unit responsible for handling issues related to staff ethics and monitoring employee conduct to ensure they perform their duties with integrity in the collection of government revenue.

He added that despite existing challenges, the institution continues to implement strategies aimed at improving the business environment and supporting the growth of the private sector. He noted that more than 70 percent of government revenue generated from economic activities depends on the private sector.

Mwenda also stated that efforts are ongoing to empower businesses and broaden the tax base in order to increase domestic revenue contributions toward national development.

He emphasized that TRA will continue improving its tax collection systems and providing education to taxpayers to ensure that everyone required to pay taxes fulfills their obligations on time.
