OLDUVAI GORGE: THE CRADLE THAT SHAPED TODAY’S HUSTLER IN KARIAKOO



They say you can never lose your way to your place of origin, and slow but steady wins the race. It may sound like a joke, but perhaps it carries a deeper truth — that all those striving to make ends meet in Kariakoo, Gaza, Teheran and elsewhere symbolically trace their roots back to Olduvai Gorge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Olduvai Gorge is globally recognized as one of the most significant paleoanthropological sites in the world. It is a unique location where early human fossils and some of the earliest stone tools were discovered, representing critical stages in human evolution from about two million years ago to the present day.

It was through discoveries made in this area that the world began to better understand the journey of human evolution. In 1959, the famous skull of Zinjanthropus was unearthed — a groundbreaking discovery that transformed scientific perspectives and highlighted Tanzania’s vital contribution to the study of human origins.

Olduvai Gorge preserves fossils, history, and the very roots of humankind in a remarkably continuous record, standing as a testament to where the human story began.

*Government Launches 15274 Hotline to Ease Access to National ID Information

Dar es Salaam: The Government has urged citizens to use their mobile phones by dialing *15274 to easily access information related to National Identification Cards (NIDA). Speaking today, December 29, 2025, the Minister for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, said the service will enable citizens to check the status of their National ID cards, including whether the card has been produced or not, with feedback provided within five days. He explained that through this number, citizens will receive important information regarding their National IDs, adding that damaged ID cards are expected to be replaced starting February 2026. “By using this number, you will be able to get information on whether your ID card has been produced. I emphasize that damaged ID cards will be issued in February 2026,” said Minister Simbachawene.
