MINISTER ULEGA URGES TBA TO ENSURE EVERY YOUTH HAS ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The Minister for Construction, Abdallah Ulega, has highlighted the government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership to ensuring that Tanzanians, especially the youth, have access to affordable and quality housing through various ongoing projects being implemented by the Tanzania Buildings Agency (TBA).

Ulega made these remarks in Dar es Salaam during a visit by the Parliamentary Infrastructure Committee, which inspected ongoing housing projects for public servants in the Magomeni Kota Phase Two area, as well as the Canadian Village housing units located in Masaki.

He stated that a total of 174 housing units are currently under construction in the Temeke area of Dar es Salaam, aimed at providing affordable housing for the youth and addressing the housing shortage in the city.

Additionally, Ulega emphasized that President Samia’s vision is to extend such projects to other cities in the country, including Mwanza, Arusha, Mbeya, and Dodoma, based on the local housing needs.

During the inspection, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Infrastructure Committee, Hon. Selemani Kakoso, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects after reviewing them and confirming that the construction is meeting acceptable and modern standards.

He noted that the quality of these houses is a result of effective monitoring by the Ministry of Construction and the Tanzania Buildings Agency (TBA) in overseeing the execution of these projects.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of TBA, Arch. Daud Kondoro, stated that the Magomeni Kota Phase Two project, which is currently 65% complete, involves five residential buildings with eight floors each. Each building is designed to accommodate 16 families, and the project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
