MEGA COPPER ADDS VALUE TO COPPER PRODUCTION
Targets 99 Percent Cathode Output

The value addition strategy in the Mining Sector has begun to yield positive results in the Kilimanjaro Region, following Mega Copper Co Ltd’s initiative to enhance the quality of copper ore from one percent to between 20 and 25 percent.
Speaking at Kiruru Village in Mwanga District, the company’s Managing Director, Ally Ng’anzo, said the improvements have strengthened the company’s competitiveness in the international market, with China currently serving as its main export destination.
He noted that after successfully increasing value to produce copper concentrate, the company now plans to invest further in specialized processing equipment to achieve up to 99 percent purity in copper cathodes. This move is expected to significantly increase the product’s value, expand market access, and ensure a steady supply of raw materials for domestic copper-based industries.
According to Ng’anzo, the company employs 65 workers, including 20 factory staff and 45 mine workers, thereby creating employment opportunities for youth in Mwanga and surrounding areas, while contributing to local economic growth.
On his part, the Acting Resident Mines Officer for Kilimanjaro Region, Engineer Abel Madaha, stated that the mine, which is 100 percent Tanzanian-owned, has become an important source of government revenue, contributing over 500 million Tanzanian shillings in royalties alone over the past two years.
He emphasized that the mine represents a practical implementation of the Government’s policy of promoting in-country mineral value addition before export. The policy aims to increase national revenue, create jobs, and facilitate technology transfer.
Engineer Madaha also encouraged other investors to take advantage of the available opportunities in the region, noting that Kilimanjaro is endowed with both metallic and industrial minerals that remain underdeveloped.
“The Mining Office will continue to cooperate with all investors to ensure that the Mining Sector grows rapidly and contributes effectively to the development of the region and the nation at large,” he said.
