HON. SALOME URGES STAKEHOLDERS TO PROMOTE THE USE OF CLEAN COOKING ENERGY IN TANZANIA

Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, has called on stakeholders and organizers of various women’s platforms across the country to promote the use of clean cooking energy, as well as provide education that will help protect women from challenges associated with the use of unsafe energy sources.

Salome Makamba made these remarks today, March 25, 2026, during the 10th anniversary celebration of Malkia wa Nguvu Legacy Mark 2026, organized by Clouds Media Group, held at Serena Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

She also urged the Malkia wa Nguvu platform to actively promote the use of clean cooking energy by supporting the efforts of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is recognized as a leading champion of this agenda in Africa.

“Malkia wa Nguvu Levels should not allow Tanzanian women to continue suffering due to the use of unsafe cooking energy. At the Ministry of Energy, our priority is to ensure that by 2030, more than 80 percent of Tanzanians are using clean cooking energy,” said Makamba.

She further explained that the significant efforts being undertaken by the government require support from other platforms such as Malkia wa Nguvu, which have a vital role to play in being part of the solution by prioritizing public education on clean energy use.

Makamba emphasized that clean energy brings transformative benefits to women’s lives by eliminating health risks caused by smoke from firewood and charcoal, creating business opportunities, increasing income, and reducing risks and potential abuse that may occur when searching for fuel in unsafe areas.

“If we decide together, we can ensure that no woman is left behind in development. Let us collaborate and empower one another so that one day we can be proud of these efforts to liberate women and see their benefits impacting the entire society,” she stressed.

She also commended Clouds Media Group for the achievements of the Malkia wa Nguvu platform over the past 10 years, noting that it has continued to empower women economically by recognizing and valuing their efforts across various sectors, strengthening their perspectives, and opening doors to greater success.

On her part, the Chairperson of Malkia wa Nguvu, Liliane Masuka, stated that the platform serves as an important tool for empowering women economically by acknowledging and appreciating their contributions in different sectors, as it celebrates a decade since its establishment.
