HON. LUKUVI WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR MANY CONTRIBUTIONS – PRIME MINISTER
Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has said that the late Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities) and Member of Parliament for Isimani, William Lukuvi, will be remembered by Tanzanians for his outstanding service in the various positions he held.
“Hon. Lukuvi will be remembered for many contributions due to his distinguished service in different capacities. His contribution to society and to Tanzanians at large—through the Party, his constituency, and the Government—has been a catalyst for development,” said the Prime Minister, who led the burial on behalf of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The Prime Minister made these remarks today (Tuesday, March 31, 2026) during the funeral service held at the late leader’s home in Idodi village, Iringa District, Iringa Region.
“On behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, I would like to assure you that just as she stood with you during his lifetime, his dreams will continue to be fulfilled,” he said.
He also urged the public to uphold the values emphasized by religious leaders and reflected in Lukuvi’s life, particularly his advocacy for cooperation between Parliament and Ministers.
Addressing the people of Isimani, the Prime Minister called for unity and respect: “Let us continue to honor him without engaging in unnecessary competition. Let us preserve the dignity of our elder by maintaining respect and decorum.”
He added that Hon. Lukuvi cared deeply for the people he led, which explains his long service of 31 years as a Member of Parliament: “As politicians, we know it is not easy to lead for such a long time. He succeeded because he prioritized the welfare of his people.”
The government, he said, will continue to honor him by implementing the projects he initiated, especially road infrastructure: “Projects in Pawaga and Isimani will be completed. I assure you that the government will continue implementing them as part of the CCM manifesto and in honor of Hon. Lukuvi.”
Speaker of the National Assembly, Mussa Azzan Zungu, said Lukuvi’s death has brought deep sorrow and that Parliament was represented by 160 Members due to the magnitude of the loss.
“Hon. Lukuvi knew his capabilities, and his passing is a great loss to Parliament, which will miss his expertise,” he said.
Earlier, CCM Vice Chairman (Mainland), Stephen Wasira, urged the youth to learn from Lukuvi’s journey, noting that he rose from grassroots levels after joining TANU in 1974 to becoming a national leader.
“One key lesson from Hon. Lukuvi is his ability to serve his constituency while holding major national responsibilities. Few leaders manage to balance both effectively,” he said.
He added that Lukuvi’s service under four presidents—from the era of Benjamin Mkapa to the present—demonstrates the trust and confidence placed in him.
The funeral service was led by Deputy Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Iringa, Father Paul Msombe, who emphasized the importance of living a life prepared for eternity.
Speaking about the late Lukuvi, Father Msombe said: “Despite his high positions, he was humble and cooperative with fellow believers. Let us remember that one day we will all rest as our brother William has rested in peace. What matters is to entrust ourselves to God and be ready for eternal life.”
Hon. Lukuvi passed away on March 25, 2026, while receiving treatment at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital.
