Clean Energy Use Reduces Tree Cutting in Mvomero
By Our Correspondent
Residents of Mvomero District have said that the implementation of the government’s directive to promote the use of clean energy has started to yield positive results, including a reduction in tree cutting and charcoal burning in some areas.
The remarks were made by several residents during a visit by a team from the Ministry of Energy Tanzania in collaboration with the United Nations Capital Development Fund, which toured the district to provide education on the importance of using clean cooking energy.
The campaign was conducted in various areas of the Morogoro Region with the aim of encouraging the adoption of safe and clean cooking energy.
Residents explained that many people have now begun shifting to the use of gas and electricity for cooking, a move that helps them save time in their daily activities while also protecting themselves from health risks caused by smoke from firewood and charcoal.
During the campaign, residents had the opportunity to witness demonstrations on the use of gas and electric stoves. They were shown how these appliances can cook food faster, at lower cost, while preserving the quality and taste of the food. This has increased the willingness of many residents to start using clean cooking energy.
