Ahead of International Women’s Day; TRA Donates Medical Equipment Worth TSh 40 Million

As the world prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has donated medical equipment worth TSh 40 million to support the provision of health services in hospitals across the Dar es Salaam Region.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on behalf of the Albert Chalamila, the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Edward Mpogolo, the Ilala District Commissioner, said the initiative demonstrates compassion and solidarity between government institutions and the community.

“We have gathered here for an act of compassion where the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has donated medical equipment for all municipal councils in the Dar es Salaam Region. On behalf of the Regional Commissioner and the people of Dar es Salaam, we sincerely thank TRA for this noble gesture,” said Mpogolo.

He added that, apart from the donation, TRA has continued to perform well in government revenue collection, which significantly contributes to national development.

“Within the 2025/2026 financial year, TRA has successfully collected more than TSh 32 trillion, equivalent to 103.7 percent of its target, demonstrating remarkable success in revenue collection,” Mpogolo noted.

He further explained that despite these achievements, TRA has not limited itself to revenue collection alone but has also chosen to give back to society through various social initiatives.

He also said TRA has continued improving tax payment systems to make services easier for taxpayers and has established a special help desk that enables taxpayers to interact with the authority more easily.

On his part, the Deputy Commissioner General of TRA, Mcha Hassan Mcha, said the donation of medical equipment is part of the institution’s contribution to the community as the world approaches International Women’s Day.

He said TRA has decided to move closer to the community by directly contributing to addressing social challenges, including those in the health sector.

“This strengthens public trust and a positive perception of institutions and the government, as well as taxpayers, while demonstrating how we recognize the contribution of taxpayers to national development,” he said.

He also used the opportunity to thank all taxpayers for their contribution to the country’s development, noting that beyond revenue collection, TRA also has a responsibility to build a strong relationship with the community.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner for Tax Investigation at TRA, Feliciana Nkane, representing women employees at TRA, said the institution has begun commemorating International Women’s Day through practical actions that touch the lives of citizens.

She said that yesterday they launched the Women and Tax Platform, which aims to provide tax education in simple language to groups of women entrepreneurs across the country to help them grow their businesses and eventually formalize them and contribute to the national economy.

“As women working at TRA, we felt it was important to celebrate this day through actions that impact the lives of our fellow citizens. That is why we have gathered here today to hand over medical equipment that will help improve health service delivery for the community,” Feliciana said.

For his part, the Chief Medical Officer of the Dar es Salaam City Council, Dr. Frank Chiduo, said the equipment will help improve the delivery of healthcare services and reduce some of the challenges faced by health facilities.

“This initiative has come at the right time, especially as the government has introduced the Universal Health Insurance program. Therefore, these medical supplies will be of great assistance in improving service delivery,” said Dr. Chiduo.
