ACT Wazalendo Leader Raises Concerns Over Tanzania’s Political Situation in Meeting with UN Representative
ACT Wazalendo party leader, Dorothy Semu, accompanied by the party’s Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mwanaisha Mndeme, held talks with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union (UNOAU), Parfait Onanga-Anyanga.
The meeting took place today, March 10, 2026, at the United Nations Embassy offices in Dar es Salaam.
During the discussions, the party leader expressed her concerns about the political developments witnessed during and after the General Election held on October 29, 2025, saying the current situation remains unsatisfactory.
She cited issues including suppression of democracy, restrictions on civil liberties and media freedom, alleged vote rigging, violations of political rights, intimidation, and the use of force against citizens demanding democratic rights as ongoing challenges in the country.
Semu called on the United Nations office to give the matter serious attention and apply necessary pressure to support accountability efforts aimed at restoring peace and social harmony among Tanzanians. She also emphasized the importance of taking responsible actions to rebuild public trust in the country’s political and legal systems.
On his part, Onanga-Anyanga stated that the intention of the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN is to see countries develop mechanisms to prevent and manage conflicts in order to maintain peace.
