ACT Wazalendo Launches Memorial Monument for Victims of October 29 Ahead of International Women’s Day
As part of preparations for the commemoration of International Women’s Day, ACT Wazalendo, through its Women’s Wing, has unveiled a memorial monument in honor of those who lost their lives during the violent incidents that occurred on October 29, 2025.
Speaking during the launch event held on March 3, 2026, the party’s leader, Dorothy Semu, said the initiative aims to preserve the memory of the deceased and to demonstrate solidarity with families affected by the tragic events.
Dorothy noted that International Women’s Day is an important moment to reflect on the role of women in society and the challenges they face, including the pain endured by mothers who lost their children during the incidents.
“The tears of a mother waiting for the return of her child’s body are a silent cry, yet one that carries great weight for the nation. A mother’s tears are a national debt,” she said.
She emphasized that the nation needs genuine healing following the October 29 events, stating that such healing can only be achieved by confronting the truth about what happened and ensuring justice for the victims.
She also strongly condemned human rights violations committed against Tanzanians and stressed the importance of listening to the voices of victims rather than concealing the truth.
Dorothy further called for the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry, separate from the government, to thoroughly investigate the incidents, saying such a step is essential to ensure justice, accountability, and true national reconciliation.
