WE WILL BUILD POWER RECEIVING AND SUBSTATIONS IN EVERY DISTRICT: MINISTER NDEJEMBI.
📌 Inspects Uhuru Power Receiving and Substation in Urambo – Tabora
📌 Emphasizes that Tanzania generates sufficient electricity to meet national demand
📌 Commends TANESCO for implementing projects aligned with modern technology
The Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has announced that the Government, through Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), will ensure the construction of modern power receiving and distribution substations in every district to guarantee reliable electricity supply and enable citizens to benefit from various economic and social opportunities.
Hon. Ndejembi made the remarks on February 14, 2026, while inspecting the progress of the Uhuru Power Receiving and Substation located in Urambo, Tabora Region. The substation has a capacity of 27 megawatts and serves the districts of Urambo and Kaliua.
He stressed that Tanzania currently produces enough electricity to meet national demand, noting that the main challenge lies in transmission and distribution infrastructure, as some districts receive power transmitted over long distances.
“At present, our country has surplus electricity; production exceeds national demand. However, the challenge we face is in distribution, as transmission lines cover long distances. For example, electricity for Urambo was previously transmitted from Tabora to Urambo and then to Kaliua,” Hon. Ndejembi explained.
On his part, TANESCO Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, stated that the company has received directives from the Minister to address power outage challenges in the affected districts and to collaborate with communities in safeguarding electricity infrastructure.
“We have received instructions from the Honorable Minister to ensure proper maintenance of electricity infrastructure starting from the receiving and substation level. The Urambo substation has commenced operations, and we will ensure that power supply challenges in Kaliua and Urambo are resolved to efficiently serve our customers,” said Mr. Twange.
Speaking about the progress of the Concrete Poles Manufacturing Plant under the TCPM subsidiary, Tabora District Commissioner, Hon. Upendo Wella, expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for investing approximately TZS 7 billion in the factory. Upon completion, the plant is expected to create employment opportunities for residents of Tabora and neighboring regions.
Hon. Ndejembi’s visit aimed at inspecting the progress of electricity projects in Tabora Region, including the Uhuru Power Receiving and Substation in Urambo and the ongoing construction of the Concrete Poles Manufacturing Plant in Tabora Municipality.
