VICE PRESIDENT LAUNCHES COLLABORATION PROGRAM BETWEEN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND INDUSTRIES

The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has called upon the private sector to collaborate with higher learning institutions by investing in research, particularly in science and technology, in order to enhance the quality of research and education standards in the country.

The Vice President made the remarks during the launch of the Collaboration Program between Educational Institutions and Employers, held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.

He stated that through the program, the private sector can contribute to the development of education by sponsoring research and providing scholarships to students in various fields based on labor market demands.

Furthermore, the Vice President urged educational institutions and the private sector to take into account the rapid global advancements in science and technology when implementing the program.

He emphasized the need for universities and the private sector to jointly identify essential skills required now and in the future, particularly in science, technology, innovation, medicine, engineering, and mathematics, in order to enable young people to compete and secure opportunities in both local and international job markets.

He noted that collaboration between educational institutions and industries is a necessity in today’s world, as universities can no longer remain isolated centers of theory, and industries cannot grow without a skilled workforce aligned with technological advancements and market competitiveness.

Dr. Nchimbi added that the Sixth Phase Government has placed strategic priority on developing skills, competencies, knowledge, and employability among youth and graduates at all levels of education, recognizing that sustainable national development is not possible without an educated and capable human resource base that can actively contribute to the national economy.

He said the Government has continued to implement major reforms in education policies and curricula at all levels to build a flexible and inclusive education system that aligns with talents, trends, and the real needs of the job market, while keeping pace with technological changes and national and international competition.

The launch of the program fulfills a pledge made by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan during the 2025 General Election campaigns, where she promised to establish a joint program between employers, vocational training institutions, and universities within 100 days after being sworn into office. The aim is to align training with the actual needs of the nation’s priority sectors.

Among other objectives, the Collaboration Program between Educational Institutions and Industries seeks to strengthen the strategic link between education delivery and workplace performance by aligning training with the needs of priority sectors such as energy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and value-addition industries.

The program also lays a strong foundation for building a generation of graduates who are employable, self-reliant, and actively engaged in national development, as it aims to transform the education system from a theory-based approach to one that emphasizes practical skills, innovation, and productivity.

The launch event was attended by various leaders from the Government, Parliament, religious institutions, and development stakeholders. Also present were employers, industry owners, heads of institutions, university leaders, and students.
