THOSE SEEKING MARRIAGE MAY FIND THEIR SOLUTION AT AMBONI CAVES, TANGA

Have you ever visited the Amboni Caves and heard the stories surrounding them?

Perhaps you have been searching for a life partner to marry, but every plan you make seems not to work out. According to local belief, the solution to this challenge can be found by visiting the Amboni Caves in Tanga—specifically a cave known as Fatuma Cave.

The Amboni Caves Reserve, which is managed by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), is home to many wonders. One of the most notable is Fatuma Cave, which is said to be used by various visitors facing different life challenges, including difficulties in getting married.

A tour guide at the caves, Muhsini Juma, explains that many people have reportedly succeeded in finding life partners after visiting Fatuma Cave. He says the cave has been used since ancestral times by people seeking a husband or wife to live with in marriage.

“In recent years, many young people have faced serious challenges in finding spouses. However, when they come to this cave, state their intentions and perform traditional rituals, they often succeed. There are many testimonies from stakeholders who have achieved this and later returned to give feedback,” said Muhsini.

The popularity of this cave has attracted visitors at different times, eager to learn how these rituals are performed. After a short period, some return to express gratitude. It is believed that visitors are not only from Tanga Region but also from other parts of Tanzania and even from abroad.

Muhsini further explains that if someone comes to Fatuma Cave with a specific person in mind whom they wish to marry, they mention that person’s name and call upon them. It is believed that within a short time, that person will begin to seek them out with the intention of marriage.

For those who do not have a specific person in mind, they are advised to state their intention clearly, such as saying, “This year I want to get married, and I desire a person with such-and-such qualities.” It is believed that it does not take long before they find a suitable partner and eventually get married.

Fatuma Cave, one of the many caves found at Amboni, is also used for rituals related to various social issues, including seeking children, praying for rain, looking for employment, and other matters. For this reason, many people perform their prayers there, usually in privacy and calm, following traditional procedures without wanting to be seen.

Another narrator, Yassin, explains that Fatuma Cave does not allow a person who has recently engaged in sexual intercourse to enter without first bathing, as it is believed this may lead to misfortune or problems.

It is believed that if a man enters the cave without bathing after sexual activity, he may experience sexual dysfunction until he seeks help from traditional elders. Similarly, if a woman enters the cave without bathing after intercourse, it is believed that her menstrual cycle may be disrupted, extending beyond her usual pattern.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has established specific procedures to ensure that communities in Tanga Region—and others who still believe in these traditions—are given the opportunity to perform their rituals without interfering with long-standing cultural practices.

Such are the wonders of Fatuma Cave. This belief reflects the saying that every journey has its return. For those seeking a husband or wife, Amboni is believed to be the place of hope. Do not despise tradition, for one who despises tradition is said to become its servant.
