Tanzania to Host CAF Executive Committee Meeting on February 13

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has said that the Sixth Phase Government’s efforts have borne fruit after Tanzania secured the opportunity to host a meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Speaking to journalists earlier today, Makonda announced that CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe is expected to arrive in the country on February 13, 2026, accompanied by his delegation, to attend the CAF Executive Committee meeting.

He explained that the decision to hold the meeting in Tanzania follows discussions between the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the CAF President, during which President Samia persuaded him to convene some of the federation’s key meetings in the country.

Makonda added that hosting the meeting is part of Tanzania’s broader strategy to position itself prominently on the African and global sports map, as well as to demonstrate its capacity to organize major international events ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Tanzania will co-host alongside Kenya and Uganda.

He further emphasized that the government will continue to collaborate with CAF to promote the development of football and other sports, with the aim of making Tanzania a hub for major sporting events in the East African region.
