The Tanzania Association of Mining Suppliers and Service Providers (TAMISA) is participating in the 2026 Mining Indaba Conference currently taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, with the aim of advancing and strengthening the mining sector globally. TAMISA’s participation forms part of the Tanzanian mining stakeholders’ delegation led by the Minister for Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde.
Speaking at the event, TAMISA Chairman, Mr. Peter Kumalilwa, said the conference is of great importance to the development of Tanzania’s mining sector, as it provides an opportunity for the association to identify and seize new investment and business partnership opportunities.
“We are getting an opportunity to learn how the mining business is conducted across Africa and globally,” said Mr. Kumalilwa.
He added that through the conference, TAMISA aims to enhance Tanzanians’ participation in the mining value chain, while attracting investment that will benefit local citizens through the implementation of the Local Content regulations.
During the conference, Minister for Minerals Hon. Anthony Mavunde held bilateral meetings with various stakeholders, including the World Bank, and participated in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministers of Mining Meeting.
In the discussions, the World Bank commended Tanzania under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for its significant efforts in growing the national economy through the mining sector and pledged continued collaboration with the Government to improve the investment climate.
The World Bank also supported initiatives to strengthen geoscientific research and promote in-country mineral value addition instead of exporting raw materials, a move aimed at increasing employment opportunities, government revenue, and broader economic benefits for Tanzanians.
Meanwhile, the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia to Tanzania, Mr. Christopher Ellinger, stated that Tanzania is among the priority countries for Australian companies investing in the mining sector. He expressed Australia’s readiness to collaborate with Tanzania in developing mining projects, while seeking clarification on local participation regulations in the provision of mining services.
In another development, Minister Mavunde met with Faru Graphite Company, a joint venture between the Government of Tanzania and Black Rock Mining, which is set to develop a graphite project in Mahenge, Ulanga District, Morogoro Region. The company reported positive progress in project preparations and thanked the Government for its cooperation.
Additionally, Plantcor Mining of South Africa is in the final stages of signing a joint venture agreement with the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) to develop a gold mining project in Kigosi, Geita Region.
Through its participation in Mining Indaba 2026, Tanzania continues to strengthen its international position as a hub for mining investment, while government and stakeholder efforts remain focused on ensuring that mineral resources contribute significantly to national economic development and the well-being of its citizens.
