MAKONDA, MWANA FA AND TFF OFFICIALS INSPECT BENJAMIN MKAPA STADIUM AHEAD OF AFCON 2027.

Dar es Salaam

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has led an inspection of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During the visit, Minister Makonda was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, Hamis Mwinjuma (Mwana FA), the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Gerson Msigwa, and the President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Wallace Karia.

Speaking after the inspection, Makonda said the main objective was to identify areas that require improvements to ensure the stadium meets the standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for hosting the continental tournament.

He noted that Tanzania is at a crucial stage in its preparations for AFCON 2027, which will be jointly hosted by three East African nations — Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda — making it essential for infrastructure to be upgraded to the required level.

On his part, TFF President Wallace Karia said the inspection forms part of a broader strategy to assess and improve sports infrastructure early enough to avoid last-minute challenges.

AFCON 2027 is expected to be a historic event for the East African region, with the partner countries continuing to work closely together on infrastructure development, security arrangements and hospitality services for teams and visitors.
