The Itracom Fertilizer Limited mine, engaged in the extraction and processing of phosphate minerals at Vilima Vitatu area in Babati District, Manyara Region, has contributed TZS 1.29 billion to government revenue since it commenced operations in 2023.
This was revealed by Geologist Waziri Mkupe, speaking on behalf of the Manyara Regional Resident Mines Officer, Godfrey Nyanda. He stated that the revenue was generated from royalties and mineral inspection fees.
He explained that since the start of production, the mine has produced a total of 69,929 tonnes of phosphate minerals valued at TZS 36.99 billion. The minerals have been sold in both domestic and international markets, particularly in Nala, Dodoma Region, and in Burundi.
According to Mkupe, the contribution has strengthened government revenue collection and stimulated development in surrounding communities through the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.
He noted that since the commencement of its operations, the mine has supported various development projects, including the construction of Vilima Vitatu Primary School, teachers’ houses, and is currently in the initial stages of constructing a girls’ secondary school dormitory.
Elaborating on domestic sales, he said that from December 16, 2023 to February 24, 2026, a total of 22,686 tonnes valued at TZS 9.07 billion were sold to Nala, Dodoma. From these sales, the Government collected TZS 90.74 million in royalties and the same amount as inspection fees.
Regarding exports, he said 13 permits were issued to transport 47,243 tonnes of phosphate minerals to Burundi, valued at TZS 27.92 billion. Between September 4, 2024 and February 24, 2026, the Government collected TZS 837.64 million in royalties and TZS 279.21 million as inspection fees.
“Itracom Fertilizer Limited mine continues to demonstrate that the phosphate mining sector is an important driver of economic growth in Manyara Region by increasing government revenue, creating employment, and enhancing community development,” said Mkupe.
He further encouraged Tanzanians to seize the available investment opportunities in the region, noting that besides phosphate, Manyara Region is endowed with other mineral resources including gold, moonstone, green tourmaline, amethyst, green aventurine, limestone, azurite, salt, muscovite mica, feldspar, and quartz crystal.
