GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES TZS 13 BILLION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TMA OFFICES

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. David Kihenzile, has visited the construction site of the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) offices located at Sinza Simu 2000 in Dar es Salaam. The project, funded by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of weather forecasting services.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Kihenzile said that the Sixth Phase Government has allocated approximately TZS 13 billion for the construction of TMA offices. The projects include the construction of a modern Eastern Zone Office and Weather Early Warning Centre, a National Tsunami Warning Centre, as well as a National Meteorological Calibration Centre, which will be responsible for inspecting and improving meteorological equipment.

Hon. Kihenzile noted that both buildings, whose construction began in 2023 and 2025 respectively, are expected to be completed before the end of this year. He emphasized that the projects will significantly improve the delivery of weather information services and provide meteorologists with a modern and conducive working environment.

On behalf of the Minister for Transport, Hon. Kihenzile urged the TMA Board and Management to supervise the projects with professionalism and patriotism, ensuring they are completed on time and meet the intended standards. He also commended TMA for awarding the contract to a local contractor, the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), noting that the move promotes the growth of local expertise and institutions.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister encouraged TMA to continue providing timely weather updates to assist citizens in their daily activities, including transportation, agriculture, and maritime operations. He also urged the public to trust and rely on official weather information issued by TMA.
