EACOP Project Progress Praised by Ministry of Energy Officials
📌 Project reaches 81% completion as pipeline welding hits 100%
Officials from the Ministry of Energy have commended the rapid progress of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which has now reached 81 percent completion, noting that the project continues to create employment opportunities and enhance skills among local communities.
Speaking on February 27, 2026, in Chongoleani, Tanga, Head of Delegation Ms. Mary Kessy said staff members from various departments and units of the Ministry were satisfied with the pace of implementation of the strategic project, which spans 1,443 kilometers from Hoima in Uganda.
She also applauded the Ministry’s leadership for organizing the visit, which enabled more than 100 staff members from the energy sector to witness firsthand the ongoing implementation of the project.
On his part, the Supervisor from the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Eng. Mussa Msafiri, stated that ongoing works include pipeline laying, with welding of pipe sections now completed at 100 percent.
He added that construction of pumping and pressure reduction stations has reached 71.6 percent, tank construction stands at 88 percent, while jetty construction has reached 87 percent.
Furthermore, he noted that TPDC’s participation in the project is part of the national strategy to develop the oil and gas sector, ensuring that Tanzania’s energy resources benefit citizens through employment, local procurement opportunities, and skills development.
