DAR ES SALAAM POLICE ARREST 46 CRIME SUSPECTS, WARN MOTORISTS AGAINST TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
The Tanzania Police Force, Dar es Salaam Special Zone, has continued to carry out its core mandate of preventing and combating crime across different parts of the city, noting that the overall security situation remains calm and stable.
Speaking to journalists, the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, SACP Muliro Jumanne Muliro, said that between January 30 and February 24, 2026, a total of 46 suspects were arrested in connection with various criminal offences, including armed robbery, burglary, breaking into warehouses and stores, and theft.
Among those arrested are Rashidi Mtunguja, also known as “Msambaa,” and four others in Jangwani, Ilala; Issa Nassoro, alias “Kurukutu,” and two others in Gongolamboto, Ilala; as well as Nicolaus Abdallah Said, a resident of Manzese, and four accomplices.
Commander Muliro further stated that Khalid Stephano, alias “Kiswili,” a resident of Temeke, and two others were arrested for allegedly stealing tablets and networking equipment valued at TZS 400 million, property of SCI Tanzania Ltd.
During the operations, a motor vehicle with registration number T457CQF, a Toyota Noah, was seized for allegedly being used to transport stolen goods. Police also recovered 20 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen from different parts of the city, 110 mobile phones, and various tools believed to have been used in committing crimes.
Regarding legal proceedings, Commander Muliro noted that through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and various courts in the city, several suspects were convicted and sentenced after evidence was presented in court.
Those sentenced include Mwita Marwa and two others from Kigamboni, who were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Kigamboni District Court for gang rape. Morisi John Ngaleje, a resident of Kibada, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape, while Adam Sanilo, also from Kibada, was sentenced to 60 years imprisonment for armed robbery and rape.
Additionally, Athumani Said from Buza and Nurdin Jafari from Chang’ombe were each sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the Temeke District Court for armed robbery, while Mohamed Omary of Mbande was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.
On road safety, the Dar es Salaam Police have continued to provide public awareness and take legal action against reckless drivers, particularly those unlawfully using Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes.
A total of 250 drivers were arrested, including 64 motor vehicle drivers, 167 motorcycle (bodaboda) riders, and 19 tricycle (Bajaji) operators. Of the motor vehicles involved, 45 were privately owned and 19 were government vehicles. All offenders have been subjected to legal action.
The Police have called upon members of the public to continue cooperating by providing information that can help prevent crime and strengthen security in their communities, ensuring that economic, social, and political activities continue peacefully and without disruption.
