Two Suspects Arraigned in Temeke Court Over Skanka Drug Trafficking

Two suspects, Amasha Iddi Mrisho (40), a resident of Buza, Dar es Salaam, and Seleman Juma Ally (32), a Mozambican national, were on January 22, 2026, arraigned for the first time before the Temeke District Court to answer charges related to the trafficking of narcotic drugs, specifically skanka.

Reading the preliminary charge before Resident Magistrate Lukosi, the State Attorney Nicas Kihembe, assisted by Erick, told the court that the accused were arrested on December 8, 2025, at Wailes Street, Temeke, Dar es Salaam, by officers from the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) in connection with drug trafficking activities.

It was alleged in court that during the operation, DCEA officers seized 20 packages of skanka cannabis, weighing a total of 20.03 kilograms, which had been hidden inside a bale of second-hand clothes and concealed in a Scania bus belonging to King Masai Tours, bearing Mozambican registration number AAM 297 CA.

The prosecution further stated that the accused are facing a criminal offence under Section 16(1) of the Drug Control and Enforcement Act, which prohibits the possession, transportation, and trafficking of narcotic drugs in Tanzania.

The prosecution informed the court that the offence is non-bailable due to the large quantity of drugs involved.

According to the State Attorney, investigations in Criminal Case No. 1535/2026 are still ongoing, and witnesses are expected to be presented before the court on a date to be set.

The case was adjourned to February 5, 2026, and the accused were remanded in custody.
