PRIME MINISTER MEETS JAPAN’S AMBASSADOR TO TANZANIA
Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has met with the Ambassador of Japan to Tanzania, H.E. Yoichi Mikami, to discuss economic matters, development projects, and investment opportunities.
Speaking to the Ambassador today (Wednesday, January 14, 2026) at his office in Mlimwa, Dodoma, the Prime Minister thanked Japan for its continued cooperation with Tanzania in the implementation of various development projects, including the Arusha–Holili road, the Kigoma Port, agricultural projects, and the provision of medical equipment for maternal and child health services.
“The Government will ensure that these projects are implemented efficiently and completed as planned,” said Dr. Mwigulu.
Dr. Mwigulu also used the opportunity to convey congratulations to the Prime Minister of Japan, Ms. Sanae Takaichi, on her appointment to the position in October 2025, making history as the first woman to hold the post in that country. “Tanzania emphasizes strengthening close cooperation with Japan for the mutual benefit of both nations,” he said.
On his part, Ambassador Mikami informed the Prime Minister that he was pleased with the progress made in implementing 79 social development projects that had previously stalled, noting that from September 2024 to date, only 16 projects remain.
He added that Japan will continue to strengthen its cooperation with Tanzania, a partnership that has lasted for more than 60 years.
