DEPUTY MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY CALLS ON YOUNG INNOVATORS TO UTILIZE TIRDO IN TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT
The Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Deniss Londo, has said that through the Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organization (TIRDO), young innovators are being given opportunities to transform their technological and entrepreneurial ideas into productive marketable products and services.
He said industries play a major role in job creation, strengthening economic security, and promoting innovation, especially among the youth.
He made the remarks today, January 23, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during his visit to TIRDO offices, where he expressed satisfaction with the organization’s activities, particularly its industrial research initiatives.
He explained that TIRDO’s role is not to establish industries directly, but to conduct research, disseminate technologies, and support small and medium-scale producers to reduce production costs and increase productivity.
Furthermore, he commended TIRDO’s leaders and experts for their great work in nurturing entrepreneurs from grassroots level up to industrial production. He said he was impressed by plastic waste recycling projects and the use of environmentally friendly technologies, noting that such initiatives protect the environment while creating employment opportunities for citizens.
However, he emphasized that cooperation between the ministry, public institutions, and local government authorities is essential to ensure that industrial projects are implemented in accordance with policies, standards, and the real needs of citizens. He pledged to forward stakeholders’ recommendations to the ministry level for further development and implementation across various parts of the country.
In addition, he stated that industrial development remains a key pillar of Tanzania’s economic liberation, stressing that without strategic investment in the industrial sector, the nation cannot achieve sustainable development.
On his part, the Director General of TIRDO, Prof. Mkumbukwa Mtambo, said they are planning to establish a center for manufacturing and repairing electronic equipment in order to promote local innovation and reduce dependence on foreign technology.
