DEPUTY MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY AND TRADE CALLS ON FAIR COMPETITION TRIBUNAL TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC AWARENESS

DAR ES SALAAM –

The Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Denis Londo (MP), has visited the Fair Competition Tribunal (FCT) and commended it for the good work it continues to do in delivering justice, while emphasizing the importance of the Tribunal strengthening public awareness among its stakeholders and the general public in order to become more widely known.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Londo said the Fair Competition Tribunal holds a unique position in ensuring effective implementation of the national competition policy, particularly through hearing appeals and cases arising from decisions of the Fair Competition Commission and various Sector Regulatory Authorities.

He noted that this implementation contributes significantly to creating a conducive business environment, attracting investment, and protecting the interests of consumers and all market participants. However, Hon. Londo pointed out that despite its importance, the Tribunal is still not well known to many citizens, hence the need to intensify public education efforts regarding its roles and mandate.

Furthermore, he stated that the existence of strong institutions such as the Fair Competition Tribunal is a key pillar in strengthening the national economy, especially in curbing monopolistic practices and unfair competition that could weaken markets and economic growth.

He added that in order to achieve the goals of the National Development Vision 2050, it is crucial for regulatory and justice delivery institutions, including the Fair Competition Tribunal, to carry out their responsibilities with high accountability, fairness, efficiency, and timeliness.

On his part, the Registrar of the Fair Competition Tribunal, Mr. Mbegu Kaskasi, thanked the Deputy Minister for the visit and assured him that the Tribunal is fully prepared to handle appeal cases efficiently and to deliver fair, lawful, and timely decisions, with the aim of protecting the interests of citizens, business operators, and the national economy at large.

Mr. Kaskasi further stated that the Tribunal continues to strengthen its operational systems, including the use of digital platforms and the expansion of public awareness programs, steps which will enhance efficiency in the administration of justice and promote fair market competition in the country.

The visit forms part of the Government’s efforts to monitor and strengthen the performance of institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the goal of ensuring they effectively carry out their mandates in safeguarding the national economy and promoting sustainable development.
