The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has participated in and sponsored the Amboni Adventure Run, held today, 31 January 2026, in Tanga City, with the aim of promoting tourism attractions—particularly the Amboni Caves, which are managed by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.
The race featured distances of 6, 10, and 20 kilometers and attracted more than 500 runners from different parts of the country. The event started at Galanos Secondary School grounds and ended at the Amboni Caves, where participants were given an opportunity to enjoy domestic tourism by visiting the caves.
Speaking during the event, the Acting Manager for Public Relations at Ngorongoro, Hamis Dambaya—who personally participated in the 10-kilometer race—said that Ngorongoro decided to collaborate with various stakeholders to continue promoting the attractions found in the Amboni Caves so that they can gain national and international recognition and attract more visitors. He added that visitors also get an opportunity to learn various historical aspects, including the history of freedom fighters.
The Supervisor of the Amboni Caves, Senior Conservation Officer Ramadhan Rashid, explained that some of the attractions found in the caves include natural geological formations, water-carved features resembling a ship, Mount Kilimanjaro, a church and a mosque, areas associated with traditional rituals and ceremonies, birds found inside the caves, the “gender cave,” Fatuma Cave—which is believed to be used by people seeking a marriage partner—various plant species, an underground river, as well as a natural environment complemented by the cool breeze from the Indian Ocean.
Meanwhile, the Director of Kale Amboni Caves, Sophia Mulamula, stated that the Amboni Adventure Run, which has now been held for the third season and attracted approximately 500 runners, continues to be improved in order to attract even more participants in the 2027 edition.
“We have conducted an assessment over the past two years and observed that these races attract many people. We believe that next year we will improve many aspects so as to attract more runners, with the aim of promoting tourism attractions, promoting our country, and continuing to encourage sports tourism,” Mulamula emphasized.
