ACT Wazalendo Central Committee Adopts Resolutions on the October 29, 2025 General Election
The Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo) has officially declared that the General Election held on October 29, 2025 was neither free, fair, nor credible, and that the government formed as a result did not reflect the will of the people.
The position was announced today in Dar es Salaam by the party’s Mainland Vice Chairperson, Isihaka Rashid Mchinjita, while reading resolutions from the party’s ordinary Central Committee meeting held on January 18, 2026 at the Hakainde Hichilema Hall, located in the Maalim Seif Building, the party’s headquarters.
He said that after receiving and thoroughly discussing the 2025 General Election report, the Central Committee resolved that the election should be repeated in order to restore Tanzanians’ right to choose leaders of their own will.
The Central Committee commended the ACT Wazalendo Attorney General’s Office for filing 84 court cases to defend citizens’ rights, and also praised the party’s lawyers for handling various cases, including a nationwide petition challenging the validity of parliamentary election results.
Furthermore, the Committee expressed dissatisfaction with the allocation of special seats by INEC, stating that ACT Wazalendo, which obtained 2,222,162 votes equivalent to 6.8 percent of valid votes, did not receive even a single seat despite surpassing the constitutional threshold of five percent.
Regarding killings reported on election day, the Central Committee strongly condemned the acts and called on the government to hold all those responsible accountable. It also demanded that the government release accurate statistics on the number of people killed, hand over the bodies of the deceased to their families, and establish an Independent International Commission to investigate the killings.
“The value of human life cannot be compared to the value of property,” said Mchinjita.
Zanzibar Government of National Unity
On the future of the Zanzibar Government of National Unity (GNU), ACT Wazalendo emphasized that its position is not about whether to join or not join the government, but about fighting to restore the right of Zanzibaris to freely elect and be elected.
The Central Committee stated that the GNU was not intended to legitimize the theft of votes, and that the party is participating in the ongoing process with the aim of overseeing reforms that will restore citizens’ rights.
ACT Wazalendo announced that it will lead the struggle for a New Constitution, stressing that without a new constitution there can be no genuine democracy.
The party proposed amendments to the laws governing constitutional change and referendums, the convening of a National Convention, the formation of a panel of experts, and ultimately the holding of a referendum.
The Central Committee also commended retired Judge Joseph Sinde Warioba for his courage in defending the principles of justice and the rule of law, and called on CCM to rebuke its members who are attacking him.
In its conclusion, ACT Wazalendo claimed that CCM has handed over politics to the security organs, a situation said to threaten national peace and security. The party stated that it will continue the struggle to return politics to the people through political parties.
