85 TOURISTS FROM SIX COUNTRIES VISIT THE KILWA RUINS

Tanzania continues to affirm its status as an island of peace and a major global tourism destination following the arrival of the cruise ship Island Sky Nassau, which docked today, January 15, 2026, at the World Heritage Site of the Ancient Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara, managed by the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), carrying a total of 85 tourists from different countries around the world.

The tourists came from Australia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom—demonstrating the strong confidence of the international community in Tanzania’s safety, peace, and hospitality.

The visit was organized by Takims Holidays Tours & Safaris Ltd, which has continued to play an important role in promoting international tourism, particularly historical and cultural tourism in World Heritage Sites.

Speaking after welcoming the visitors, TAWA Public Relations Officer Beatus Maganja said the arrival of the tourists is clear evidence that Tanzania remains a safe, peaceful, and friendly country for visitors, despite the various challenges facing the world today.

“Our site continues to receive many visitors from different countries around the world. Last year, we received nine cruise ships carrying a total of about 1,130 tourists. This year, this is the first ship, and within this month of January we expect to receive more than three additional ships full of tourists, with many others scheduled to arrive later,” said Maganja.

“This is proof that our nation, Tanzania, remains a leader in peace, which is why many countries continue to be attracted to visit its tourist attractions,” he emphasized.

The Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, continue to attract visitors due to their unique history of ancient Indian Ocean trade, stone architecture, and their significant contribution to the history of East Africa.

The arrival of the Island Sky Nassau adds value to the government’s and tourism stakeholders’ efforts to grow the economy through tourism, while also sending an important message to the world that Tanzania remains an island of peace, unity, and hospitality—factors that continue to draw visitors from all corners of the globe.
