UN Secretary-General: Tanzania Is a “Global Example of Peace”

“Tanzania continues to stand as a model of peace and social cohesion in Africa and across the world.”

These remarks were made today by the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. António Guterres, while receiving a Special Envoy bearing a message from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The message was delivered by H.E. Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, who served as the President’s Special Envoy.

Secretary-General Guterres acknowledged that Tanzania’s long-standing reputation as a symbol of peace was tested during the General Elections held on 29 October 2025. Nevertheless, he commended the country for its resilience in maintaining national unity and stability.

He emphasized that it is in the interest of the United Nations to see Tanzania remain strong and continue serving as a positive example of peace and cohesion at both regional and global levels.

The UN Secretary-General further underscored the importance of conducting a meaningful and inclusive national dialogue. Such dialogue, he noted, is essential to addressing the root causes of the violent incidents that occurred on 29 October 2025 and to establishing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He concluded by reaffirming the United Nations’ full support for Tanzania’s ongoing efforts, including assistance during and after the completion of the work of the Commission of Inquiry established in the country.
