During the visit, she urged the institutions to ensure that Tanzanians directly benefit from the country’s oil and gas resources.
Speaking during the discussions held in Dar es Salaam, Hon. Salome emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities for Tanzanians, improving social services, and ensuring access to energy at affordable costs.
Hon. Salome further directed TPDC’s Management to accelerate the distribution of natural gas to households so that more citizens can benefit from this crucial resource.
She also commended TPDC for the efforts they continue to make in the exploration and development of oil and natural gas resources in the country. She noted that these improvements are already yielding positive results in the availability of energy across various regions, and urged them to ensure that these efforts benefit an even larger number of citizens.
In addition, Hon. Salome praised PURA for the commendable work it is doing to grow the oil and gas sector in Tanzania. She encouraged the authority to continue fostering an investor-friendly environment to attract new investments, increase employment opportunities, and ensure that citizens gain direct benefits from the available resources and investments within the country.
She stressed that priority must be given to natural gas exploration and development projects, including the LNG project, in order to enhance investment gains and ensure the nation fully benefits from its natural resources. She further emphasized that all institutions under the Ministry must prioritize public interest when overseeing strategic energy projects and ensure compliance with government directives on the management, utilization, and benefits of natural gas resources.
For his part, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Dr. James Mataragio, urged TPDC to increase the pace of natural gas production and supply to ensure sufficient availability of the resource for citizens. He also emphasized that PURA should continue prioritizing investors and encourage increased investment in oil and gas opportunities so that the government can generate more revenue and citizens can benefit from the projects.
TPDC Managing Director, Mussa Makame, stated that the corporation is strengthening infrastructure for storage and transportation of oil and gas, while also improving market systems to enhance efficiency and accessibility of these products nationwide. He added that TPDC is advancing plans to expand gas projects, including the implementation of small-scale LNG projects that will enable gas distribution to various regions at affordable and timely rates.
