The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has commended the Ministry of Energy through the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) for constructing a modern pre-primary and primary school in Likong’o Village, Lindi Region, under the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and processing project.

The Prime Minister made the remarks on 20 December 2025 while inspecting the construction of the school, which will have the capacity to accommodate 400 pupils in Likong’o Village, Mbanja Ward, Lindi Municipal Council.

“I commend TPDC for this step of implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities through the LNG project. This is a modern, high-quality school that has taken into account various needs, including infrastructure that accommodates people with special needs and girl children,” said Dr. Nchemba.

In another development, Dr. Nchemba emphasized that the Ministry of Energy should ensure the school is equipped with clean cooking energy infrastructure, in support of the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda, spearheaded by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Following the establishment of the school, the Prime Minister urged citizens to seize the opportunity by enrolling their children, thereby supporting President Samia’s efforts to expand school infrastructure across the country to ensure all children access education.

On her part, Hon. Salome Makamba, Deputy Minister for Energy, stated that the construction of Likong’o Primary School is part of giving back to communities that provided land for the implementation of the LNG project.

She noted that the project, which has reached 70 percent completion, demonstrates how the Sixth Phase Government’s slogan of “Work and Dignity” is being implemented in practice.

Hon. Salome further said that the Prime Minister’s directive to equip the school with clean cooking energy infrastructure will be implemented, adding that within the first 100 days of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership, 52 institutions will be supplied with clean cooking energy infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Lindi Member of Parliament, Mohamed Utaly, thanked President Samia for the LNG project investment, noting that it has become a catalyst for education development in the Lindi Region.

He also commended TPDC for ensuring that community social responsibility projects have started early through the LNG project.

Earlier, Upendo Mahavanu, the Supervising Engineer of the Likong’o pre-primary and primary school project from TPDC, said the project costs TZS 1.27 billion. The school will have nine classrooms—seven for primary education and two for pre-primary—along with offices and teachers’ houses.

Implementation of the LNG project is expected to bring various benefits to the country, including government revenue from LNG exports to the international market, employment opportunities, business opportunities for local suppliers, and technology transfer aimed at building the capacity of local professionals.
