The Palestinian Ambassador to Tanzania, Salim Siam, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, paid a visit to the offices of the Dar es Salaam Regional Press Club (DAR-PC), where he announced that his office has officially opened doors for cooperation with the country’s oldest press club and journalists at large.
During the visit, Ambassador Siam called on journalists to show solidarity with Palestine by raising a united voice to condemn the suffering endured by Palestinian civilians at the hands of Israeli forces.
Speaking after meeting DAR-PC leaders at the club’s offices located at Twiga House, Ambassador Siam said Palestinians need collective strength in denouncing atrocities, particularly the ongoing killings in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which have claimed the lives of innocent civilians, including women and children.
He said that since the start of the attacks in October 2023, at least 70,663 Palestinians have been killed as of the week ending December 15 this year, including 256 journalists, alongside widespread destruction of buildings, roads, water sources, energy infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and universities.
“Recent information from Reporters Without Borders shows that in 2025 alone there has been an increase in the killing of journalists worldwide. Out of 67 journalists killed this year, nearly half were killed on Palestinian land. Since October 2023, nearly 220 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli forces, with 65 of them killed while carrying out their professional duties.
“We call upon journalists not to remain silent in the face of these killings. We ask for genuine cooperation to ensure that this oppression is exposed and known worldwide so that it can be brought to an end,” he said.
Ambassador Siam emphasized that his office is ready at all times to cooperate in providing accurate information about developments in Palestine, noting that injustice in one place is injustice everywhere. He warned that silence in the face of oppression only normalizes it and allows it to become part of everyday life.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Press Club (DAR-PC), Andrew Msechu, said the club has been closely monitoring the situation in Palestine and continues to support the Tanzanian government’s position in recognizing and backing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
He said journalists have been deeply affected by the suffering of the Palestinian people and by the scale of injustice inflicted upon innocent civilians, and that they have repeatedly discussed ways to strengthen efforts against such oppression.
“The suffering faced by Palestinians also affects journalists, who are part of the broader Palestinian society that is being oppressed. According to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), reports show that in 2025 alone, 51 journalists have been killed while trying to gather and disseminate information about what is happening in their country. This number is alarming, and as members of the journalism community, we are deeply saddened and disturbed by these developments.
“Our journalists have been doing their best within their capacity, even though not at the level required due to various challenges. Nonetheless, we have continued to stand with the people of Palestine and the international community in the struggle to ensure a Free Palestine. Through our pens, we will continue to play our part in achieving this goal,” he said.
Msechu noted that one of the major challenges journalists have faced is access to accurate information, as it has often been difficult to reach reliable sources on the ground, forcing them to rely on international sources.
“We believe that with this close cooperation you have strengthened today, including this visit to our offices and the in-depth discussions we have held, this marks a new beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership for your office, journalists, and the Palestinian nation as a whole,” he said.
