MINISTER NDEJEMBI CALLS FOR FAIRNESS AND EQUALITY FOR OIL INVESTORS.

📌 Objective is to protect national interests and create a conducive investment environment

📌 Says EWURA is a key institution for national security

📌 Emphasizes the importance of maintaining strategic fuel reserves for emergencies

The Minister for Energy, Hon. Deugratius Ndejembi, has directed the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) to ensure fairness and equal treatment for investors in the oil sector, stressing that all decisions must be guided by laws, procedures and justice, rather than by personal interests or favoritism, in order to safeguard a conducive investment climate in the country.

Hon. Ndejembi issued the directive on December 19, 2025, in Dodoma City, while meeting with EWURA leaders and officials as part of his familiarization visit and to review the Authority’s ongoing activities.

He noted that some EWURA officers have, at times, abused their authority by unfairly targeting certain fuel station investors through closures, while leaving other stations with similar challenges unpunished. He emphasized that such practices must not continue, warning that strict disciplinary measures will be taken against any official found engaging in unfair treatment.

“EWURA is a critical institution for our national security. We must always prioritize national interests to improve the welfare of Tanzanians and promote economic growth, while also ensuring that the country maintains adequate fuel reserves to respond to emergencies,” Hon. Ndejembi stressed.

Furthermore, the Minister underlined the importance of accountability and integrity among EWURA staff, stating that he will not tolerate any employee who violates laws, regulations and public service ethics.

Speaking at the same meeting, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Eng. Innocent Luoga, commended EWURA’s management for the good work of ensuring continuous growth of the oil sector. He added that the Ministry of Energy will continue to work closely with its institutions to ensure the effective implementation of directives and priorities set by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

On his part, the Director General of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), Dr. James Andilile, stated that EWURA has continued to provide public education on the use of natural gas in vehicles (LPG) and to ensure the availability of petroleum products in rural areas.
