HCG Gas Ltd Expresses Interest in Investing in Tanzania’s CNG Gas Distribution Project.
By Our Reporter
HCG Gas Ltd, an energy company from India, has expressed interest in investing in a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) distribution project for vehicles and households in Tanzania.
The company’s representative, Rekha Sharma, visited Tanzania and held a meeting with the Investment Manager of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Godbless Robiam, where they discussed investment opportunities in domestic gas distribution under the Urban Gas Distribution and CNG for Vehicles project.
HCG Gas Ltd submitted a Preliminary and Informal Expression of Interest (EOI) to TPDC, outlining its proposal on how the project could be implemented. TPDC will review the submission and, where necessary, provide further guidance for continued discussions.
Sharma’s visit to Tanzania follows earlier engagements held during a study tour to India in October 2024, which was attended by senior officials from TPDC and the Public–Private Partnership Centre (PPPC).
The initial study tour was sponsored by PPPC and included representatives Emmanuel Masawe and Engineer Mohamed Fakihi, who were assigned to gain knowledge on gas distribution, as well as to identify and collaborate with investors interested in participating in urban gas distribution projects under PPP arrangements in Tanzania.
The ongoing discussions are expected to lead to the development of the Urban Gas Distribution PPP Project, in which HCG Gas Ltd will partner with TPDC to expand gas distribution networks from primary gas sources to households, alongside establishing CNG infrastructure for vehicular use.
