Government Prepares New Bill to Hold Lower-Level Public Servants Accountable for Corruption

The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, has announced that his ministry is preparing a new bill that will grant legal authority to hold lower-level public servants accountable for engaging in corrupt practices.

He explained that the current law does not adequately cover this category of employees, hence the need for amendments to strengthen accountability mechanisms within the public service.

The proposed bill will also classify public servants into specific groups based on their roles to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are applied.

Minister Ridhiwani Kikwete made the remarks today, December 12, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, following a directive issued on December 11, 2025, by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, instructing a review of existing laws to ensure that lower-level public servants involved in corruption are held responsible.
