DR. MWIGULU: RELIGIOUS LEADERS SHOULD CONTINUE PROMOTING UNITY AND PEACE
▪️Calls on Tanzanians to uphold unity and peace
The Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has called on religious leaders to continue cooperating with the Government in providing education that promotes unity and peace, while opposing hatred, divisions, and any acts that may disrupt national cohesion.
He said that any war involving citizens fighting among themselves has no winner, as it results in losses for all, and that division within a nation produces no victor but rather collective failure as a country.
Dr. Nchemba made the call today (Thursday, December 25, 2026) while attending a Christmas Day service held at the Azania Front Lutheran Cathedral in Dar es Salaam.
“The benefits of peace are immense: it fosters economic development, strengthens social well-being, and enables every Tanzanian to participate fully in building the nation,” he said.
He added that the Government continues to fulfill its responsibility of safeguarding peace and security in the country, while nurturing Tanzanians—especially the youth—to value and uphold patriotism.
“Tanzania has continued to be a model of unity, peace, solidarity, and stability in our region and across Africa. This peace has been built on strong foundations of morals, justice, mutual respect, tolerance, and patriotism,” he emphasized.
Furthermore, during the service, Hon. Dr. Nchemba joined H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, in extending Christmas greetings to Christians and all Tanzanians at large, urging them to celebrate the festive season in peace, love, and calm, while maintaining national unity for the benefit of the nation.
On his part, the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) and Bishop of the Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Bishop Dr. Alex Malasusa, condemned the behavior of some individuals who tarnish the reputations of others and incite divisions within society, noting that there are people who feel uncomfortable when communities live together in peace and harmony.
