DEPUTY MINISTER KATAMBI CALLS ON NDC TO SPEED UP IMPLEMENTATION
The Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Patrobas Katambi, has called on the National Development Corporation (NDC) to increase its pace and accountability in executing its mandate in order to realize national goals of industrial development and economic growth.
Katambi made the remarks today in Dar es Salaam during his visit to NDC offices.
He said the Government is targeting a major industrial transformation, ranging from small- and medium-scale industries to large industries, with the aim of creating more jobs, particularly for the youth.
> “NDC must put more effort into reviving collapsed industries. That is where we will achieve positive and productive results for Tanzanians,” said Katambi.
He added that the institution should operate with transparency, collaborate with various stakeholders, and eliminate monopolistic tendencies, noting that NDC should serve as a bridge between the Government and citizens, not a barrier.
Katambi emphasized that a country with strong industries is one with economic strength and the capacity to provide sustainable employment for its people.
On her part, the Acting Managing Director of NDC, Ms. Valentine Simkoko, said the corporation continues to oversee strategic industrial development projects across the country.
She cited achievements including the payment of compensation to citizens who gave up land for development projects such as Liganga and Mchuchuma, Engaruka Soda Ash (Magadi Soda), and Maganga Matitu.
Additionally, NDC has entered into joint venture agreements with investors in the Maganga Matitu Iron Project, as well as a contract with Labiofam S.A. for the transfer of technology for the production of organic fertilizers in the country.
