DAR ES SALAAM REGIONAL COMMISSIONER CHALAMILA CALLS FOR PEACE AS TANZANIA WELCOMES 2026
The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila, has called on residents to continue maintaining peace and tranquility as they celebrate the New Year 2026, while emphasizing the importance of thanking God for the blessings and achievements recorded during the year 2025.
Speaking to journalists on December 31, 2025, at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam while delivering his New Year 2026 message, RC Chalamila said the Dar es Salaam Region has remained highly peaceful and secure. He noted that the Government under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has continued to firmly safeguard peace and security across the country, stressing that every citizen has a responsibility to protect and preserve peace.
He urged residents to avoid actions that may cause panic during New Year celebrations, including the use of fireworks without permission from the Police Force and the burning of tyres on roads, noting that such acts pose serious risks to public safety and property.
RC Chalamila highlighted major development projects being implemented in the region, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges in various areas of Dar es Salaam. He cited the Jangwani Road project as one of the key initiatives aimed at addressing flooding challenges, particularly during the rainy season, and directed contractors to work day and night to ensure timely completion of the project. He also referred to ongoing road construction under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP).
Addressing the challenge of water shortages caused by climate change, RC Chalamila said that the ongoing rains have led to increased water levels in the Ruvu River. He added that the Sixth Phase Government is implementing a long-term solution through the construction of the modern Kidunda Dam, alongside another strategic plan to supply water to Dar es Salaam from the Rufiji River.
On electricity supply, he said the Government continues to strengthen power availability in the region to support social and economic activities. He further stated that the region is fully prepared to receive more than 95,323 students expected to join Form One in January 2026, as well as pre-primary and primary school pupils, emphasizing that there will be no unnecessary school contributions and urging parents and guardians to adhere to government guidelines.
Additionally, RC Chalamila spoke about the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance initiative as directed by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, emphasizing that the Government is committed to ensuring citizens do not face difficulties in accessing health services, including when collecting the bodies of their loved ones who pass away in hospitals.
Reflecting on the incidents of breach of peace and destruction of infrastructure that occurred on October 29, RC Chalamila said the Government is continuing to restore affected essential social services. He called on citizens to cooperate with the Government in maintaining peace and urged religious leaders to continue promoting peace, unity, and harmony within society.
