CITIZENS OF SIHA, FUONI AND FIVE WARDS TO VOTE FOR MPs AND COUNCILLORS TOMORROW
The Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Justice of Appeal Hon. Jacobs Mwambegele, on December 29, 2025, issued a special statement regarding the parliamentary by-elections in Siha Constituency, located in Siha District Council, Kilimanjaro Region (Mainland Tanzania), and Fuoni Constituency, located in Magharibi B District, Mjini Magharibi Region, Zanzibar, scheduled to take place on December 30, 2025.
Justice Mwambegele stated that the by-elections will also involve five wards in Mainland Tanzania. The wards are: Chamwino in Morogoro Municipal Council, Morogoro Region; Mbagala Kuu in Temeke Municipal Council, Dar es Salaam Region; and Nyakasungwa in Buchosa District Council, Mwanza Region.
The other wards are Masoko in Mbeya District Council, Mbeya Region, and Ndono in Uyui District Council, Tabora Region.
He further noted that a total of 33 candidates from 17 political parties are contesting the vacant parliamentary and councillorship seats in the mentioned areas. Of the 33 candidates, 21 (63.64 percent) are men, while 12 (36.36 percent) are women. The Commission particularly commended the participating political parties and candidates for their willingness to take part in the elections.
Justice Mwambegele also said that a total of 218,024 registered voters listed in the Permanent Voters’ Register are expected to participate in the elections, and 556 polling stations will be used.
“I take this opportunity to remind political parties participating in tomorrow’s election, December 30, 2025, to fulfill their responsibility of deploying agents at all polling, vote counting, and tallying centers. Election supervisors in the respective constituencies and wards have completed all necessary arrangements to ensure that party agents are able to monitor the entire electoral process,” said Justice Mwambegele.
He added that the agents are responsible for safeguarding the interests of their parties and candidates, and therefore must comply with election laws, regulations, procedures, and the Commission’s directives while carrying out their duties at polling stations.
