CHAIRPERSON OF THE TANESCO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER OFFICE
📌 Says TANESCO has made significant progress in implementing power projects
📌 Commends ongoing efforts to strengthen customer service delivery
📌 Pledges cooperation and to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor
The Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Mr. Plasduce Mbossa, was officially handed over office today, December 16, 2025, by the outgoing Board Chairperson, Hon. Dr. Rhimo Nyansaho, who is currently the Minister for Defence and National Service.
The handover ceremony was held in Dar es Salaam and was attended by members of the Board of Directors as well as TANESCO Management.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Mbossa said that Hon. Dr. Nyansaho has left TANESCO on a strong footing, with good governance and management, following the completion of several major electricity projects. These include strategic projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, which has significantly strengthened electricity generation and availability in the country.
Mr. Mbossa also commended the ongoing efforts to improve customer service, noting that these initiatives have enhanced efficiency and placed customers at the center of service delivery.
> “TANESCO is on the right path; many power projects have been completed, resulting in the country having sufficient electricity supply. We will continue making efforts to increase power generation in line with the growing demand for electricity,” Mr. Mbossa explained.
On his part, the Minister for Defence and National Service and outgoing Board Chairperson, Hon. Dr. Rhimo Nyansaho, thanked the Board members and TANESCO Management for the cooperation they demonstrated throughout his tenure. He assured the new Chairperson that the Board is stable and expressed confidence that he will continue from where he left off.
> “I sincerely thank the Board of Directors and TANESCO Management for the cooperation you accorded me during the entire period we worked together. We worked closely to address challenges and ensure the Corporation moves forward in serving citizens,” said Dr. Nyansaho.
Speaking on behalf of the TANESCO Managing Director, the Deputy Managing Director (Generation), Engineer Antony Mbushi, thanked the outgoing Board Chairperson for his leadership and strong cooperation. He emphasized that Management will continue to listen to and implement the directives of the current Board Chairperson for the benefit of the Corporation and the nation at large.
During his tenure, Hon. Dr. Nyansaho oversaw the implementation and completion of numerous power projects, including the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, Rusumo Project, Lemuguru Power Transmission Project, various National Grid strengthening projects, and the integration of Kigoma and Katavi regions into the National Grid. He also left other projects at advanced stages of implementation, such as the Kishapu Solar Power Project, which has reached over 84 percent completion.
Additionally, during his leadership, TANESCO succeeded in improving the working environment for its employees, contributing to increased efficiency in the execution of its duties. Significant improvements were also made in customer service, including enhancements to the call center, the introduction of the 180 customer service hotline, and the Jisoti system to strengthen communication.
