64 Years of Independence: TBN Says “Peace First, Nation-Building Always”

Today, December 9, as we commemorate 64 years since our nation attained Independence, the Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN) congratulates all Tanzanians for reaching this significant milestone in our national history. This is a day to reflect on the journey we have travelled, where we stand today, and the future we are building together.

Our founding leaders left us a priceless gift—Independence. But they also reminded us that Independence cannot be complete without self-reliance. Today, we echo the words of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, who once emphasized:

"Independence cannot be complete without self-reliance. We cannot claim to be free while depending on others for our basic needs."

Let Us Build Our Nation – Not Destroy It

As a digital media network, TBN underscores that our national progress has been anchored on stability, unity, and solidarity. To continue moving forward, we must safeguard peace and reconciliation—key pillars of development.

Former President Benjamin William Mkapa wisely reminded us:

"Peace is not something natural; we must protect and preserve it every day. Without peace, there can be no real development."

If we allow ourselves to be guided by hatred, incitement, and unrest, the efforts of our founders to fight ignorance, poverty, and disease will be lost. We should not use social media or freedom of expression to tear down our nation; rather, we must use them to build it.

Every Era Has Its Leader – Let Us Support Progress

Each generation has its responsibility. As former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi once stated:

"Every administration has its era. Each leader contributes to the building of this nation."

In the current administration under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania continues to advance through the 4Rs: Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding. This is a call to all Tanzanians to take part in constructing a nation grounded in unity, positive reforms, and socio-economic strength.

We have the space to speak—let us communicate in ways that build, not destroy. To honour our Independence is to work hard, protect peace, and refuse to be used to undermine the foundations of our country.

TBN Wishes You a Happy Celebration of 64 Years of Independence!

Tanzania First — Work, Dignity, and Solidarity. Let’s Move Forward!
