It has been stated that the Clean Cooking Energy Communication Strategy is a key guide toward achieving the national goal of ensuring that citizens use clean, safe, environmentally friendly, and affordable cooking energy by the year 2034, with the aim that 80% of Tanzanian households adopt clean cooking solutions.
This was revealed today, November 17, 2025, by the Acting Head of Government Communications in the Ministry of Energy, Ms. Neema Mbuja, during a discussion with citizens on the Crown Sport program in Dar es Salaam. She explained that the Clean Cooking Energy Strategy is an essential tool for implementing national and international commitments aimed at addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“Through the ten-year National Strategy, the Government aims to ensure that 80% of households in Tanzania use clean cooking energy by 2034. This strategy focuses on reducing respiratory diseases caused by smoke, protecting forests, and creating economic opportunities through investments in clean cooking technologies and equipment. The Government has emphasized that its implementation will involve the private sector, development institutions, and community establishments serving more than 100 people, such as schools and prisons,” Ms. Mbuja explained.
She elaborated that the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy goes hand-in-hand with the communication strategy, as it aims to raise public awareness and provide clear information on the use of clean cooking energy. Through national campaigns involving radio, television, social media, public exhibitions, and special training for community leaders, journalists, and online influencers, Tanzanians will receive targeted messages and enhanced understanding of clean cooking energy.
For his part, the Research Engineer at the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Samwel Kessy, stated that the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy is essential in achieving the country's goals of ensuring the safety, sustainability, and accessibility of clean cooking energy. He noted that it will help save time, reduce costs, and minimize environmental and health impacts for users.
He added that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is committed to educating citizens to ensure that everyone understands the benefits of using clean cooking energy and that various stakeholders are engaged to guarantee access to affordable equipment and clean energy, especially in rural areas.
“As TANESCO, we have ensured that electricity reaches customers widely and is supplied more reliably. Also, in collaboration with the private sector, we have ensured that citizens can access high-quality and affordable cooking equipment so they can transition to clean cooking energy,” Engineer Kessy emphasized.
