The Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has said that the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) continues to implement strategic projects in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution with high efficiency—contributing significantly to building a robust and reliable national energy system.

Minister Ndejembi made the remarks on November 27, 2025, during an inspection of the 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma power transmission line project, where he emphasized the need for the contractor to complete the work on schedule and according to required standards.

He explained that the large-scale project is being funded entirely by domestic resources and will cost approximately TSh 556 billion upon completion.

“I am directing TANESCO to continue supervising the contractor to ensure that the work is completed in line with the agreed timeline. We do not want to reach the end of implementation only to find that the project has been handed over without being fully completed,” Minister Ndejembi stressed.

He added that TANESCO has been instructed to meet with the contractor to develop a new work plan outlining step-by-step monitoring strategies toward the completion of this national project.

Furthermore, Minister Ndejembi highlighted that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, continues to push for the timely and reliable delivery of electricity to all citizens across the country.

For his part, the Managing Director of TANESCO, Mr. Lazaro Twange, said that Tanzania currently has sufficient electricity from its generation sources, and the major ongoing task is to transmit and distribute that power from generation sites to citizens and investors.

Mr. Twange noted that the Government has completed the construction of major substations in Dodoma and Chalinze, which will serve as central hubs for transmitting power from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) and other sources to different parts of the country.

“The Dodoma substation is a critical junction—it receives electricity from various areas and is also the point that connects us with our counterparts in Kenya,” said Mr. Twange.

He added that these efforts are key to ensuring the nation has a strong, reliable electricity system that meets current needs and those of future generations.
