The Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has said that the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has continued to implement major reforms aimed at improving access to electricity services across the country—an effort that has boosted public confidence and opened up various economic opportunities for citizens.
Minister Ndejembi made the remarks on November 22, 2025, in Dodoma during a meeting with TANESCO leaders, convened to assess progress and remind them of their core responsibilities in serving the public. He used the meeting to urge TANESCO staff to enhance their speed and creativity in connecting electricity to citizens as part of the implementation of the Mission 300 Strategic Plan.
He emphasized that for the plan to be effectively implemented, it is necessary to take legal action against any contractors found to be negligent or failing to keep pace with the government’s commitment to ensuring that every Tanzanian benefits from electricity services.
“I commend TANESCO for the great and commendable work of delivering electricity services to citizens, but we still have much to do. Increase innovation and better approaches to ensure timely connections. I believe that by working closely with our stakeholders, we will achieve the target of connecting 1.7 million customers annually,” said Minister Ndejembi.
Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, expressed gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for investing in electricity projects that reflect a strong commitment to ensuring that all citizens, both in urban and rural areas, have access to electricity services.
For his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Hon. Felchesmi Mramba, said TANESCO has been implementing its projects in accordance with international standards, making Tanzania a model for other countries in electricity infrastructure development and management.
The Vice Chairperson of the TANESCO Board of Directors, Ambassador Zuhura Bundala, noted that the organization is equipped with dedicated and patriotic staff who continue to work diligently. She affirmed that the board will continue collaborating with TANESCO to ensure achievement of the set goals.
Meanwhile, TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, stated that within the first 100 days of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s tenure, the organization will fast-track the completion of key electricity projects, including the Kishapu Solar Power Project, which is currently at 83% completion.
“Within the first 100 days of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, we have planned to complete several electricity projects, including the Kishapu solar power project. We are also continuing with the strategy to connect more citizens to electricity, with a target of reaching 1.7 million customers per year,” said Mr. Twange.
The working session brought together top TANESCO leaders, regional directors, district and regional managers, and was officially opened by the Minister for Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, accompanied by Deputy Minister Hon. Salome Makamba.
