RC CHALAMILA MEETS FUEL ENERGY STAKEHOLDERS IN DAR ES SALAAM.

– Leads a broad discussion on security and proper fuel distribution

– Extends condolences to fuel sector stakeholders affected by recent incidents

The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila, met today, November 7, 2025, with stakeholders in the fuel energy sector — particularly those dealing in diesel and petrol — in a special meeting organized by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA). The meeting was held at the PSSSF Building Hall in Sinza, Ubungo District.

During the session, RC Chalamila led a wide-ranging discussion on strengthening security and protection at fuel stations following recent criminal incidents involving groups of youths who attacked and set fire to several petrol stations, causing significant financial losses to business owners. The dialogue provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share their opinions and recommendations aimed at improving the sector and preventing similar incidents in the future.

RC Chalamila expressed his sympathy to those affected and reassured the stakeholders that the government stands firmly with them, recognizing their crucial contribution to both individual livelihoods and the national economy.

“It is important to properly regulate the sale of fuel in containers. While it may not be practical to ban it entirely, due to the need to supply certain operations such as mobile communication towers and boats, it must be done in an orderly and controlled manner,” said Chalamila.

The RC also urged stakeholders and the community at large to continue educating young people — particularly groups such as motorcycle and tricycle (bajaji) riders — on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. He emphasized that Dar es Salaam serves as an economic hub for many landlocked countries and hosts numerous vital services, including specialized healthcare and trade activities.

In conclusion, the stakeholders thanked the government for its support and appealed for dialogue with financial institutions to allow more time for loan repayments following the recent losses. The Ilala District Commissioner, Hon. Edward Mpogolo, also advised fuel traders to enhance security measures at their stations and avoid running other types of businesses within the premises to ensure greater safety.
