PRESIDENT SAMIA: WE WILL INCREASE ELECTRICITY GENERATION TO 8,000 MEGAWATTS BY 2030.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the Government has set a target to double electricity generation to 8,000 megawatts by the year 2030, in order to match the pace of economic growth and the country’s energy demands.


Addressing Parliament in Dodoma on November 14, 2025, during the inauguration of the 13th Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, President Samia said that in the past period, the Government succeeded in increasing power generation from 1,600 megawatts to over 4,000 megawatts, a milestone that enabled all villages across the country to be reached by electricity infrastructure.


“As we move towards 2030, we have set a target to double electricity generation and expand the electricity network to reach every hamlet in the country,” said President Samia.


She pointed out that Tanzania is blessed with diverse energy sources including water and solar, among others.
