PRESIDENT SAMIA PROVIDES SUBSIDY FOR ELECTRICAL WIRING IN RURAL ELECTRIFICATION PROJECTS
📌 Goal is to ensure every citizen benefits
The Government, through the Rural Energy Agency (REA), has begun implementing a project to install electrical wiring for households as part of the broader rural electrification initiatives being carried out nationwide.
This was revealed in Dodoma on November 25, 2025, during a meeting between the Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, and the REA Management Team, convened to review progress on projects supervised by the Agency.
Hon. Salome stated that the Government, through REA, is continuing with the implementation of a project to extend electricity to 9,000 hamlets — a fulfilment of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s promise to the people.
“The Government is implementing strategic plans that will deliver quick and tangible results to its citizens through the Energy Sector. Within one hundred days, REA is fulfilling the President’s commitment to bring electricity to the people,” said Hon. Salome.
Speaking on Clean Cooking Energy, she noted that REA will install clean cooking energy systems in more than 50 institutions to help them transition from unsafe and unclean energy sources.
“Within one hundred days, citizens will witness significant changes as we begin installing clean cooking energy systems in institutions. Announcements have already been issued, and institutions are urged to take advantage of this opportunity,” she added.
She also called on citizens, especially young people, to seize opportunities within the clean cooking technology value chain, noting that the Government — through REA — is committed to supporting these initiatives.
Additionally, she directed contractors implementing rural electrification projects to work at the Government’s required pace and ensure timely and high-quality project delivery. She stressed that the Government will not tolerate incompetent or slow contractors, given the substantial resources invested in these projects.
For his part, REA Director General, Eng. Hassan Saidy, outlined the ongoing efforts and progress in implementing clean energy and rural electrification projects.
Eng. Saidy urged rural residents to take advantage of the opportunity to connect to electricity services, noting that the Government is introducing a subsidy to support households in installing internal wiring systems.
