The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has continued its program of offering education on participatory conservation and promoting domestic tourism in various schools. Today, November 20, 2025, staff from the Authority visited Banjika Secondary School located in Karatu, Arusha Region.

During the visit, conservation and tourism experts provided education on the importance of conservation, tourism attractions found in Ngorongoro, and the role of students in becoming ambassadors for tourism and conservation, including the establishment of environmental conservation clubs.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief Conservation Officer – Marketing, Mr. Michael Makombe, said the initiative aims to equip students with knowledge on tourism and conservation so they can become ambassadors for protecting the environment and promoting Tanzania’s attractions.

“Students are key stakeholders in conservation, environmental protection, and tourism. At Ngorongoro, we have been distributing tree seedlings to schools in Karatu, Monduli, Arusha, Mbulu, and other areas across the country as part of encouraging environmental protection. This helps students understand the importance of conservation and the tourist attractions found in Ngorongoro so they can continue to be our ambassadors in their communities,” said Makombe.

Banjika Secondary School Headmistress, Ms. Ritha Uwo, stated that all the trees planted in the school since 2005 were provided by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority. She appealed to the Authority’s leadership to continue offering conservation and tourism education to both primary and secondary school students, noting that learners usually share this knowledge with their parents at home—thus helping to promote domestic tourism and environmental protection.
